Welcome Baby Will!

A couple months ago Alicia asked me to be there with her and Peter when she went into labor. Very early in the morning on December 8th, she did just that. Although I didn't actually find out about it until quite a few hours later.

I got to the hospital about 10 am. When I got there, the nurse had just checked her and she was at a four, so they were anticipating quite a few more hours before baby boy actually arrived. Alicia had decided that she wanted to do it without an epidural. She was pretty out of it when I got there. Apparently it is really common for the mother to not remember all of the labor because her body takes over. We spent almost two hours helping Alicia through her contractions. Will was sitting on her tailbone, so Peter counteracted that pressure during the contractions while I held her hand and played with her hair. I wasn't actually sure the hair thing made her feel any better, but I figured it probably didn't make her feel worse and it always helps me feel better.

The nurse came in about 11:45 to check her again and surprised us all by saying Alicia was at a nine! Alicia has always been an overachiever. The nurse called the doctor and she came in within about 20 minutes. Alicia pushed for about a half hour and then William Aaron was here! What an awesome moment. When Will came out and started crying, Peter just kept looking between Will and Alicia with a look of so much love, disbelief, and happiness. It was amazing to watch my sister become a mom and her husband become a dad. It really did happen in just a moment.

Alicia got to hold Will for a couple minutes before they took him over to get him a little cleaned off. Right as they took him over Mom and Shannon walked in the door. They had to take him to for about a half hour to make sure he was breathing okay since he had a lot of fluid in his lungs. Peter went with him while we stayed with Alicia. Shannon got a little lightheaded with the blood and stuff, but she was okay as long as she was sitting down. Once Peter and Will came back they moved everyone into another room and we left so that everyone could rest.

I love this little guy!
In the time since then, Will has gained a couple pounds and his neck has gotten so strong! We love this little man!
